こころ in romanji “kokoro” means “heart” in Japanese. Today I learn about human’s heart that is the source of life as psalmist says. One thing that “shocked” me today is that I learn about heart is really deceitful Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? I, Jehovah, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”
As a mankind, we have sinful nature for we all to be born with carrying sin. But because of Christ has died at the cross to save us, we who must be punished for our sin, has saved. Christ the only one man in this world that is not sinned has sacrificed His life so that we can live. He also set us free from the evil’s power as in sin and from punishment that wait for us because of our disobedient.
However, after Christ’s salvation, we still lives in this sinful world and we still has this sinful flash. Those both have tendency to commit sin again. So that’s why although we’ve already saved, yet we still can commit sin. Confuse? Here is the illustration to help you understand. As we were the “sin prisoner”, we were such a man that bond by “sin rope”. We can not release ourself! But as Christ has saved us, He release that “sin rope” and we are no longer a “sin prisoner”. We are a free man in Christ that lives under His grace and we can not sin any more (Rome 6:12). In contrast, the reality tells us that it is so hard to not sin again! Galatians 5:17 stated that our flesh wants is opposed each other with the Spirits, so that we do not do what we want to do (including doing what’s good and according to God’s word). The Holy Spirit light our thoughts by Words of God and on the other hand the sin is trying to take over us by our wrong desires that comes from our heart. Hence, how we can get rid of it? what should we do?
I learned that the heart is the source of our life. In bible, heart often times define human’s life along with the five sense to produce good or evil; sometimes it is used to show our consideration, our love or our emotion, our will, and many more. I pointed it out that the thing we must have always keep to prevent us to commit sin is our heart. Why? because the bible says that everything that desecrating the man comes from the heart. You may check it in Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, coveting, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness: all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.”
Yep, our heart is a very poisonous as the potential-sin-made in our life, danger enough that proverb says that we must keep our heart with diligence for out of it are the issues of life. For our heart shows how do we live, when your heart is righteous, so do your words, your act, your motivation, and many thing more. Reversely the statement before state also that we may check our heart by reflecting our thoughts, our act, our attitude, our motivation, etc. (see fruit of the Spirit in Gal 5:22-23). We must do repent for our sin day by day, as we really regret to do it, not because of things that benefits us or because as a “routine activity”. Do not let our heart is harden for Christ! as King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 8:11 stated ” Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. ” If we tend to ignore to repent for our sins, our heart will full of wicked desire!
In conclusion, Let us pursuit the truth and right life in our King, Jesus Christ, and also by checking our heart day by day so that when He come we may face Him properly at the end of the world. Amen.
